Catalyst Wedges are handy tools useful in a variety of arts and crafts: fusible paint and powder manipulation on glass, oil and acrylic painting and textured media application, ceramics, plaster, encaustics (they’re heat-resistant)—even baking and food crafting. These wedges are made of a pliable, FDA-approved silicone that’s resistant to solvents and easy to clean. They’re manufactured by the Princeton Brush Company.

Catalyst Wedge W-06 has the longest longest blade (nearly 4"), perfect for swiping through, picking up/putting down/spreading paint or wet gels, pastes, or other mediums. Dip the thin, pliable edge in paint and press it to your canvas for interesting 4” lines (or longer, if you pull it along). Cut through a top wet layer to reveal color underneath. Draw down the blade in a smooth line whose width you can vary by rocking the wedge as you move it. Hold the blade close to your canvas to gently pick up and spread just enough paint to reveal texture without removing all the color. Create grids easily. The short side gives you the opportunity to work in a smaller area.

I demonstrate all the wedges in this video. If you want to see W-06 along, go to 6:30 into the play. Back up a bit to 5:26 to see how the white wedge compares to the very similar black one.
